Spartanburg County hospitals and which plans include them
| Hospital | BlueEssentials / BlueConnect (EPO) | Ambetter | First Choice Next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spartanburg Medical Center |
- Spartanburg Medical CenterIn network: BlueEssentials / BlueConnect (EPO), Ambetter, First Choice Next.
Every carrier selling in Spartanburg County includes Spartanburg Medical Center, so the choice here comes down to price, doctors and drugs.
- Spartanburg Regional's other hospitals, Pelham Medical Center in Greer, Cherokee Medical Center in Gaffney and Union Medical Center, are also in BlueEssentials/BlueConnect, Ambetter and First Choice Next.
- If you see Prisma Health doctors in Greenville, First Choice Next does not include Prisma Health Greenville Memorial. Ambetter and BlueEssentials/BlueConnect do. See our Greenville County page.
- Check individual doctors, too. A hospital being in-network does not guarantee every specialist there is. Our guide to checking doctors and prescriptions shows how.

Which plan type fits whom in Spartanburg County
First Choice Next and Ambetter sell HMOs here, and BlueCross's BlueEssentials and BlueConnect are EPOs. The South Carolina Marketplace has no PPOs.
- Healthy and mainly want protection from a big bill: First Choice Next Bronze Essential is the lowest premium at $558. Its $12,000 deductible is also its out-of-pocket maximum. Generics are a $25 copay, but expect to pay most other routine costs yourself until you meet the deductible.
- You see doctors or fill prescriptions regularly: First Choice Next Gold Enhanced, at $736, has a $1,000 deductible, $35 primary care visits, $5 generics and a $10,000 out-of-pocket maximum. It costs $8 more than the county's lowest silver and less than the benchmark.
- Lower household income: Compare silver before anything else. At up to 250% of the federal poverty level, silver is the only metal level with cost-sharing reductions, which lower deductibles and copays. Before those reductions, the benchmark has a $6,400 deductible, $40 primary care visits and a $10,300 out-of-pocket maximum. See cost-sharing reductions explained.
- You split care between Spartanburg and Greenville: Ambetter or BlueEssentials/BlueConnect, which include both Spartanburg Regional and Prisma Health Greenville Memorial.
