Why ACA

Coverage built for real life

  • No denial for pre-existing conditions

Every ACA marketplace plan must accept you regardless of your medical history. There are no medical questions on the application and no condition exclusions.

  • Subsidies most people qualify for

Premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions can dramatically lower your monthly cost — sometimes to nothing — and under rules extended through 2026, that holds even at middle-class incomes.

  • Every essential benefit covered

Every plan covers the 10 essential health benefits, including hospital care, prescriptions, mental health, maternity, and preventive care.

Reviewing what's covered by an ACA plan

What every ACA plan must cover

The Affordable Care Act marketplace is a government-run exchange where individuals and families shop for health insurance. Most states, including South Carolina, use the federal marketplace at healthcare.gov.

Every plan sold on the marketplace is required to cover the same set of essential health benefits, so you can compare plans on price and network instead of worrying about gaps in coverage.

  • Hospital and emergency care
  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Maternity and pediatric care
  • Mental health and substance abuse treatment
  • Preventive care at no extra cost-share
  • Lab work, rehab, and chronic disease management
Calculating ACA subsidies

Subsidies that actually lower your cost

Most people who buy ACA coverage qualify for financial help. Premium tax credits lower your monthly payment based on your projected household income, and under enhanced rules extended through 2026, there's no hard upper income cutoff. Middle-income households often qualify for real savings too.

If your income is below 250% of the federal poverty level and you choose a Silver plan, you may also qualify for cost-sharing reductions. CSRs lower your deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximum, so your Silver plan ends up performing more like a Gold plan at a Silver price.
