Anderson County keeps the same three Marketplace carriers for 2027: Ambetter from Absolute Total Care, BlueCross BlueShield of SC and First Choice Next, with 39 plans. The benchmark silver plan for a 40-year-old costs $785 a month at full price before subsidies, up from $665 in 2026 (+18.1%). That is the third-highest benchmark price among SC's 46 counties.

No carrier is leaving or entering, which makes Anderson the steadiest market among the counties we cover. The benchmark plan still changed and prices still rose, so it is worth shopping.

First Choice Next leads on price at bronze, silver and gold. At gold, the gap to the next carrier is $128 a month for a 40-year-old ($760 vs. Ambetter's $888), and it grows with age.

What changed for 2027: exits and entries

No exits and no entries. Anderson County is one of the few SC counties where every 2026 carrier returns and none join. Molina, which left 37 SC counties, did not sell here in 2026.

The benchmark plan changed within the same carrier. First Choice Next was the benchmark carrier in 2026 with Silver Essential and is again in 2027 with Silver Signature. A new benchmark plan changes everyone's tax credit, even with the same carrier, so recheck your 2027 net price. See how a benchmark change can raise your net premium.

Plan menus shifted. Ambetter went from 9 plans to 17, BCBS from 22 to 14, and First Choice Next stayed at 8. BCBS has no regional HMO in Anderson County, so its plans here are the statewide BlueEssentials and BlueConnect EPOs.

The cheapest bronze changed hands. In 2026 it was BCBS Blue VirtuConnect Bronze 1 at $507. In 2027 it is First Choice Next Bronze Essential at $576.

Local hospitals and which plans include them

AnMed is the local system, and many Anderson County residents also use hospitals in Greenville and Pickens counties.

  • AnMed Health Medical Center is in all three networks. Whichever carrier you choose, Anderson's main hospital is covered in our data.
  • First Choice Next includes AnMed and Bon Secours St. Francis in Greenville, but not Prisma Health Greenville Memorial or Baptist Easley.
  • Ambetter includes AnMed and both Prisma hospitals on this list, but not AnMed Cannon in Pickens.
  • The BCBS EPO includes all five, with restrictions at Prisma Health Baptist Easley. See which plans cover Prisma Health.

Which plan type fits whom

Every Anderson County plan is an HMO except the BCBS BlueEssentials and BlueConnect EPOs, and there are no PPOs on the SC Marketplace. Neither covers out-of-network care except emergencies. Here BCBS sells only the EPO, which is the broadest network but also the priciest at silver and gold. Our HMO vs. EPO guide has more.

You use AnMed and want the lowest premium. First Choice Next is the cheapest at every level and includes AnMed. Its Bronze Essential plan is $576 at age 40, but its $12,000 deductible equals its out-of-pocket maximum.

You see a lot of doctors or take ongoing medication. First Choice Next Gold Enhanced is $760 at age 40, $25 a month less than the benchmark silver plan, with a $1,000 deductible, $35 primary care and $80 specialist visits. Your tax credit is set by the benchmark, so with a credit you would still pay about $25 a month less for this gold plan than for benchmark silver. Compare in our metal level guide.

Your specialists are at Prisma Health in Greenville. Look at Ambetter (lowest silver $830 at age 40) or the BCBS EPO (lowest silver $875).

You are 60 and paying full price. The benchmark is $1,667 a month at age 60. Our early retiree guide covers ways to plan income around the 400% FPL cutoff.

Your income is lower. Silver with cost-sharing reductions can lower your deductible a lot; see cost-sharing reductions.
